A joint venture between BAM Nuttall and Mott Macdonald (BMMJV) was appointed by Bristol City Council, South Gloucestershire Council and the Environment Agency to undertake the detailed design and construction of the flood defences and wetland areas. The main construction work started in Summer 2020 and will be carried out on a phased basis until 2024.
BAM Nuttall and Mott Macdonald have worked together on a number of major projects for the Environment Agency and other government bodies, bringing a wealth of experience in the design and construction of flood and coastal works. BMMJV have delivered a large number of schemes ranging from £300,00 to £100 million, these include Exeter flood defence scheme, Leeds flood defence scheme 1 & 2, Dawlish Beach Management Scheme, Boston Barrier, Port Clarence and Greatham South flood defence project in Teesside. The joint venture has helped provide better flood protection for more than 70,000 of the 300,000 homes the Environment Agency committed to provide improved protection for since 2015.
